Thank you for your interest in Livingstone Academy Bournemouth (LAB).
As a STEAM-powered learning community, we use Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as entry points for enquiry, communication, personal expression, invention, critical thinking and problem-solving. Our aim is to develop students who take thoughtful risks, engage in active learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process in ways that are real and applicable to the modern world and emerging careers.
Our school is a place where children can learn in a way that best suits them; where they can explore areas of interest and gain advanced skills and understandings to develop a portfolio of work that demonstrates and celebrates their achievements. We prioritise rigorous and relevant academic work with individualised learning goals to enable our students to aim high and find their personal best. At the same time, we provide a close-knit community for children to be children amongst like-minded friends.
What makes LAB so different from other schools is not just our STEAM curriculum, but our unique approach to teaching and learning. We emphasise connected, concept-driven experiences that mimic how we learn, think and solve problems in the real world. Here, we use technology in responsible and relevant ways so that children become adept digital consumers and creators. To optimise student engagement, we use our time and student groupings flexibly – there isn’t a fixed timetable and each day can look a little different. As part of the Aspirations Academy family, we feature the No Limits Curriculum that includes core project lessons that allow students to manage their own learning whilst developing essential employability skills.
At LAB, we see every day as an opportunity to learn, to grow and to create a better tomorrow. Our approach will suit students and their families who:
- Take pride in and responsibility for their learning.
- Are curious about the world around them.
- Are keen collaborators.
- Enjoy tackling projects and complex problems.
- Are comfortable with challenge and flexibility.
- Want to engage a digital mindset.
- Are ready to be kind, be creative and get hands-on!
We look forward to meeting you.
Warmly,
Kimberly Elms
