Year 7 Curriculum

Curriculum in Year 7

  • Students in Year 7 will have rigorous Subject Learning in Mathematics, English, Science (including biology, chemistry and physics), Computer Science and Spanish.
  • Uniquely, much of the humanities (History, Geography, Religious Education and PSHCE) and art (art, design and technology) curriculum will be taught through carefully planned Explorer Projects that combine the humanities with art and design.
  • Students will be expected to research issues in great depth, creating a final artefact and present their learning to a public audience.
  • Real-world Projects will be introduced in Year 7 and will involve students working in teams to solve problems set by external partners from business and the community.
  • Students will still take part in Innovation Time exploring a topic or issue of their choosing in great depth.
  • Electives will be introduced in Year 7 providing students with a choice of activities for two hours each week.
  • Physical Education will be taught in a different way to most schools. Each student will have a personalised exercise programme. Through partnerships with local sports and leisure organisations students will have access to a number of different choices to enrich their learning experience and learn about the importance of staying healthy.
  • During Performance students will work on music, drama, dance or sport projects that will end with a public exhibition of their learning. For example, students may work on a music performance in teams across a term culminating in a community charity concert.
